The 2012 Commonwealth Judo Championships are being held in the Welsh Capital city Cardiff.

Cardiff has been inhabited for approximately 6,000 years and is currently home to nearly 350,000 people. As well as being the 10th largest city on the United Kingdom, Cardiff is the capital city of Wales. It is home to the Welsh Assembly government and is a popular tourist destination with over 18 millions visitors per year.

In recent years the city has enjoyed a regeneration around the Cardiff Bay area, which is where the Championships are being held. The venue for the championships is the “Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru” which is Welsh for Wales Millennium Centre.

Donald Gordon Theatre

Donald Gordon Theatre

The Millennium Centre is a landmark in the city and known internationally, especially with it’s use in the BBC’s “Torchwood” series. The Commonwealth Judo Championships will be held in the Donald Gordon Theatre. As this is a world class theatre the 2012 Commonwealth Judo Championships will present Judo in new ways for those who attend with finals blocks being presented in a “show” format with matches sharing the spotlight with some of Wales’ top performers (singers, dancers and other performers).

All accommodation for the event is in Cardiff Bay, allowing visitors to experience the famous hospitality of the Welsh people and explore this historic city.
