 2.0       Commonwealth Judo Championships for Grand Masters

2.1. DATE

The individual competition will be held on Monday 23 January 2012.

2.2. PARTICIPATION

All the following conditions must be met in full for an individual to be considered eligible to participate in this Championship.

a) Minimum age of 30 on 1 January 2012

b) Hold a current and valid licence (membership) issued by a National Federation currently affiliated to the Commonwealth Judo Association. January 2012.

c) Pay the appropriate entry fees in full within the deadline time outlined in this document.

d) Check-in at Registration (see Timetable of Registration).

e) Meet the specific weigh-in requirements as applicable.

f) Provide photographic proof of your identity and date of birth using a valid current passport or a current National I.D. Card.

g) A competitor must not have represented a National Team in any competition at international senior level at any time in the twelve month period before the 23 January 2012.

h) It is recommended that all competitors should have had a recent medical check up prior to this championship.

 

There is no limit on the maximum number of competitors each delegation may enter per category. The competitors can only be entered only in one weight category, the one in which they are enrolled.

In order to help ensure that there is a possibility of multiple fights for each player, the organisers intend to limit the entry to the Masters Championships to the first 400 participants. This will be strictly on a first come first served basis. To avoid disappointment, please enter early.

The competitors must be of the same nationality as the country, which enters them. Competitors who have double nationality can only represent 1 country. After having represented a country in the Olympic Games, in continental or regional games or in world or regional Championships, recognised by the CJA, he may not represent another country unless he meets the conditions set forth in the next paragraph.

When a competitor changes nationality, he must wait 3 years before he can represent the new country, unless the two countries concerned (the old country and the new country) agree to authorize his entry for the new nationality and this is accepted by the CJA (According to the Olympic Charter Article. 42).

Each Delegation will be given a number of free accreditations for the Commonwealth Judo Championships for Grand Masters depending on the number of athletes.

7 – 8 competitors – five officials

9 – 10 competitors – six officials

11 – 12 competitors – seven officials

13 – 14 competitors – eight officials

15 – 16 competitors – nine officials

20-22 competitors 11 officials

23-25 competitors 12 officials

26-28 competitors 13 officials

29-32 competitors 14 officials

2.3. AGE

Age divisions – how age is determined

Players will be allocated an age division based on the following criteria:

F3/M3              1972- 1968

F4/M4              1967- 1963

F5/M5              1962- 1958

F6/M6              1957- 1953

F7/M7              1952 – 1948

F8/M8              1947- 1943

2.4. WEIGHT CATEGORIES

Women:  -48 kg ; -52 kg ; -57 kg ; -63 kg ; -70 kg ; -78 kg ; +78 kg

Men:  -60 kg ; -66 kg ; -73 kg ; -81 kg ; -90 kg ; -100 kg ; +100 kg

2.5. COMPETITION FORMULA

The Competition format that is used for the Masters categories, will of course depend on the number of entries received, and the outcome of any category combining that may take place. It is the intention of the organisers to try to ensure that players have at least two fights. However we are not able to make a final decision on the format until after the entry closing date.

 The Event Director reserves the right to alter the competition format depending upon the number of entries received.

Preliminaries of the individual contests & the fight for the bronze medals and the finals for most categories will be held on 4-5 mats. Selected finals will be part of the evening show, on 1-3 mats. The selected finals will be identified in the detailed information available after 30 November 2011.

All medallists in the selected finals must attend the evening medal ceremony in white judogi. Medals will only be presented during the ceremonies.

2.6. DURATION OF CONTESTS

The duration of each contest will be that of 3 minutes for men and women and the Golden Score 2 minutes for competitors in the M1/F1 to M6/F6 age range

The duration of each contest will be that of 2.5 minutes for men and women and the Golden Score 1 minute for competitors in the M7/F7 to M9/F9 age range

2.7. WEIGH IN

Unofficial weigh-in takes place just before the official weigh in. The weigh-in takes place on the same morning as the competition for the category concerned.

The weigh in for Masters only will be held at the Wales Millennium Centre on Sunday 22 January 2012.

Exact times for weigh in can be found in the detailed program published after 30 November 2011. The weight of the competitors has to fall within the category in which they are enrolled.

The competitors:

•           presenting themselves after the closing of the weigh-in, cannot participate at the competition.

•           can present themselves only one time at the official weigh-in.

•           must present their CJA accreditation and an official piece of identity (identity card or passport) at the official weigh-in

 

2.8. DRAW

Note: before the draw the lists of each category are hung in the draw room / in the corridor outside the draw room. Each head of delegation should check that all his inscribed competitors are on these lists and that they are under the right category. No corrections can be made after the draw.

The draw will take place at 20:00hrs in the Wales Millennium Centre on Sunday 22 January 2012.

In the draw, any medallists in the same weight and age category from the previous Commonwealth Judo Championships for Grand Masters held in Singapore 2010 will be seeded. For the rest of the draw separation by nation will be respected.

2.9. CATEGORY COMBINING

A Technical Official from the Commonwealth Judo Association will delegate responsibility to a suitable individual, in order to operate of the Category Combining policy.

Only weight categories with three or less entries may be subject to Category Combining. However in the case of only three entries if it is not possible to achieve Category Combining safely and according to the Guidelines then a pool of three elimination system will be considered.

A) Combining within the same age division

Players should remain within their age division if possible.

B) Combining using weight categories.

Weight category – competitors may only be combined with other competitors who are no more than one weight category lighter or one weight category heavier. Special consideration should be given to the actual weight differences when dealing with the lightest and the heaviest female and male categories (as a guideline a maximum of 10kg actual difference when combining the lightest weight category and a maximum of 20kg actual difference when combining the heaviest weight category should be considered as a limit unless there are other compensatory factors such as experience etc).

Weight should be the primary consideration when moving players about within their own age division or combining them with other age divisions in accordance with the age division guidelines below.

C) Age divisions

Competitors in age divisions M7 or F7 and above (for example M8/F8. M9/F9 etc) may only be combined with other competitors who are no more than one age division higher or more than one age division lower i.e. competitors in M7/F7 may only be combined with competitors from M6/F6 or M8/F8.

Competitors in divisions M6 or F6 may be combined with competitors no more than one age division higher or two age divisions lower. i.e. M7/F7, M5/F5 and M4/F4

Competitors in divisions M5 or F5 may be combined with competitors no more than one age division above or two age divisions below i.e. M6/F6, M4/F4 and M3/F3.

Competitors in divisions M4 or F4 may be combined with competitors no more than two age divisions below or two age divisions above i.e. M3/F3, M2/F2, M5/F5 and M6/F6.

Competitors in divisions M3 or F3 may be combined with competitors no more than two age divisions below or two age divisions above i.e. M1/F1, M2/F2, M4/F4 and M5/F5.

Competitors in age divisions M2 or F2 may only be combined with competitors one age division below and two age divisions above i.e. M1/F1, M3/F3 and M4/F4.

Competitors in age divisions M1 or F1 may only be combined with competitors in two age divisions above i.e. M2/F2 and M3/F3
